The river supplies more than 60 million people, including the people of Vietnam. There is a growing demand for a (national) sustainably-cultivated healthy and safe food supply for the growing Vietnamese population.

A majority of the population in East Africa still uses traditional fuels like charcoal and wood for household cooking. This causes severe health issues and gender inequalities. It also harms the environment and contributes negatively to climate change. On a global level, 2.4 billion people are exposed to dangerous levels of household air pollution. Rwanda and neighboring countries, including Kenya, Uganda, and Burundi, now aim to reduce the use of traditional cooking fuels and focus on clean cooking alternatives.

After a successful pilot, NLWorks has evaluated on behalf of the full consortium. It was concluded that the pilot was not scalable in its original set-up, mainly as a result of too high costs. Based on the lessons learned from the pilot, Colombian parties can continue the initiative without bilateral collaboration. The Dutch content has no significant value-add at the moment which has led us to the conclusion that the concept development phase can be concluded successfully and at the same time, the initiative will not continue to the program development phase within the NLWorks portfolio.

As part of discussions on the government-to-government level, possibilities are explored for sand mining on at long distance from the coastline. This is still in a very early phase. Should an initiative with a viable business case emerge from this, NLWorks will get involved if needed.
